Netflix Says ‘More Than Half’ of Its Subscribers Watch Anime

Netflix made a splash at Anime Expo 2025 with a slew of announcements, but the biggest surprise might be that half of all of its subscribers are anime fans.

The streaming mega company touched on the numbers in a post that was shared as part of Anime Expo during the weekend. Included in the list of upcoming shows fans can look forward to, such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, Sakamoto Days, and Dan Da Dan, Netflix shared that “more than half of Netflix’s members” watch anime in some capacity. It’s far from a detailed breakdown, but it’s still an impressive stat, to say the least.

While we don’t have the company’s current subscriber count, we do know that it was more than happy to share that it had crossed the 300 million member mark when announcing a price hike in January of this year. That means roughly 150 million Netflix users are tuning in to check out anime episodes new and old as the streamer continues to invest in the popular animation medium.

These numbers line up with a recent Dentsu study (as shared by Variety), which surveyed 8,600 consumers from 10 countries to find that 48% of Netflix subscribers are anime fans. They’re strong numbers for any streaming platform, with the study finding that 32% of Disney+ viewers and 29% of Amazon Prime Video subscribers tuned into similar content. Dentsu also found that 31% of global consumers have at least one anime they tune into every week, with Netflix towering above the competition in the U.S., where 63% of its audience watches anime.

Netflix has slowly poured more resources into its anime efforts throughout the last decade. Anime based on video games have been particularly successful for the company, with highlights being shows based on Castlevania, Devil May Cry, The Witcher, and Cyberpunk 2077. Original anime like Beastars, Devilman Crybaby, and Pluto have arrived in the years since, too, with each offering something different for every kind of viewer.

Netflix confirmed at Anime Expo 2025 that it has no intention of scaling back its anime offerings. Dan Da Dan Season 2 is midst of releasing new episodes every week, with more from Leviathan, Sakamoto Days, and My Melody & Kuromi set to drop before the month is out. Netflix subscribers were also recently treated to the promise that more Record of Ragnarok episodes will premiere this December while they wait for the Beastars Final Season Part 2 in 2026 and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 at an unspecified point in the future.
