Wizards of the Coast has been exploring quite a few crossovers with its card game Magic: The Gathering. The company’s most recent set featured Final Fantasy, and there are Spider-Man and Avatar: The Last Airbender sets on the way too. So when a listing for a Star Trek set popped up online, it predictably set specuation ablaze.
That is, until the listings were pulled down, and now reports indicate the whole thing was just a placeholder-gone-wrong.
Earlier this month, per Popverse, the card shop Saga Concepts posted several pre-order pages for an unannounced “Magic the Gathering CCG Universes Beyond Star Trek” line of products, including a pre-release pack and play booster display. They also had “pre-order now” options.
Curious fans thought they’d stumbled onto hidden information, or a potential leak of future sets. After all, if Final Fantasy, Spider-Man, and Avatar are all in the cards, surely Star Trek could be too? It might even have some synergy with the upcoming Edge of Eternities set, as the two would share a sci-fi setting.
Over on MTG.cardsrealm, they actually found more details; not only did the Star Trek product have an expected date set for September 30, 2026, there was also a Secrets of Strixhaven set with an expected release date of June 23, 2026.
But the listings disappeared, and a Discord message (reportedly gone now, per Popverse) explained what went down. On the retailer’s Discord, they said they have paused pre-orders. “We hid these in the site like we’ve done in the past for rumors to bribe Google to like our website,” one Saga Concepts representative reportedly wrote. “No one found the Nicktoons MTG set though!”
So the whole thing was an SEO play, to either predict a potential set coming down the pipe or hold a place for something on the way. While it was possibly meant with the best intentions, to help the shop stay competitive in a crowded market, it also didn’t stop fan pages and leak-hunters from going wild over the possibility of a Star Trek-MTG crossover.
For now? The pages are down, and the official reveals of Magic: The Gathering’s next set Edge of Eternities are due to roll out soon. Anyone hoping to play some official Star Trek decks will have to dig deep into the past, at least for now.
