Jason Momoa Shaves His Beard For the First Time In 6 Years To Prep For Dune 3

Jason Momoa is headed back to the Dune-verse… but not without a little shave first. The actor shared a video while shaving his beard for the upcoming Dune 3 shoot — and it’s clear he’s dedicated to his role.

“Only for you, Denis,” Momoa noted in the video, tipping his hat to Dune director Denis Villeneuve, who will also helm the third installment. Later, he noted that he wasn’t loving how he looked with a shaved face, something he hadn’t had in six years. “Goddamnit! I hate it,” he said in the clip.

Momoa, who has also played DC hero Aquaman, is known for his hefty beard and long wavy brown hair, so seeing him without either is pretty weird. That said, he of course was clean shaven for Villeneuve’s original Dune film, in which he played fan-favorite character Duncan Idaho.

After skipping the second installment, Dune: Part Two, he will return for the next part of the saga alongside his son, Nakoa Wolf-Momoa, who will play Leto II, the twin offspring of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya).

Momoa recently spoke about his son’s film debut. “A rude awakening is what he’s in for,” he explained to Extra earlier this month. “He’s into the workforce for the first time. It’s going to be good. He did it on his own. I don’t want to help him, and he’s done it all on his own, and good for him.”

He added: “You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is. I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age. There’s no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on Baywatch at 19. He’s 16 and holding shit down with Denis Villeneuve.”

Dune: Part Three is due out on December 18, 2026. Meanwhile, Momoa is set to play Lobo in next year’s DCU film, Supergirl.
