The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales Is Square Enix’s Latest New Action RPG Coming to Switch 2

Today’s Nintendo Partner Direct ended on a Square Enix double-whammy. One of the games is a brand new HD-2D action-RPG entitled The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, and it’s coming to Switch 2 in 2026.

The Adventures of Elliot follows the adventurer Elliot, who sets off from the Kingdom of Huther to investigate a mysterious set of ruins that’s been found in the wilds. Huther is protected by a spell that keeps out attacking beast tribes, so Elliot ends up having to fight his way through the world outside.

While The Adventures of Elliot looks like Octopath Traveler and Live a Live and other HD-2D turn-based RPGs of recent years, this game plays different. It’s an action RPG. Instead of having a party, you just control Elliot and his fairy companion Faie. Elliot can wield seven different weapon types, all of which has different abilities and effects, and he can upgrade them using Magicite crystals that he finds on his travels. Faie can also attack enemies on her own, either controlled by the player or by a second player in a co-op mode.

The Adventures of Elliot doesn’t have a release window just yet, but a free demo will be out today, and Square Enix is sending out a post-play survey for players to give feedback sometime after.

In addition to this, Square Enix also brought out a reveal for Octopath Traveler 0 for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, planned for release on December 4, 2025. So if you liked the look of The Adventures of Elliot but missed the turn-based flavor (or if you just don’t want to wait indefinitely for Elliot), that’s probably the game for you.
