Star Wars Actor Ewan McGregor Wants Disney to Make Andor Season 3, and Cast Him as Obi-Wan Kenobi in It

Ewan McGregor has petitioned Disney for a third season of Andor, so his character Obi-Wan Kenobi can appear within it.

Speaking at Fan Expo Canada, McGregor said he had initially been excited to see if Obi-Wan Kenobi could appear in a future season of the Disney+ Star Wars show, after belatedly catching up on it.

Alas, McGregor soon realised that Andor was now over — its run wrapped up earlier this year at the end of its second season — something that rather ends his chances of appearing in it. Not to be deterred, however, McGregor has now said there’s “always a chance” for more episodes of the series “if Disney is listening — hypothetically” in order to allow his incarnation of Obi-Wan Kenobi to return.

“I missed it when it came out,” McGregor said of belatedly catching up on the show, in remarks first reported by Collider. “And I don’t know, I always come to things later. It’s just the way I am. If everybody’s talking about something, I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’ll see that later.’ And then when I watch it, you know, a year later, I’m like, ‘This is really good.’ And it was like, ‘Yeah, that’s what we were all saying a year ago.'”

McGregor recalled watching the first season with his son, before speeding through the series’ second run of episodes on his own as he “couldn’t wait” to see how it concluded.

“And then I got really excited,” he continued. “I was thinking, ‘I think I’m in this timeline. I think I could be in Season 3.’ I was super excited, and then I realized, ‘Oh no.'”

Unfortunately for McGregor, Andor being limited to a two-season run has been known for some time — though he is correct to believe Obi-Wan Kenobi could make an appearance, chronologically speaking. McGregor’s own Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ miniseries is set nine years before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, while Andor begins four years later, and runs up until the events of Star Wars: Rogue One.

That said, it’s unclear how a third season of Andor could work (maybe McGregor hasn’t watched Rogue One yet?) and it’s unclear how Kenobi (who is really supposed to be in hiding from the Empire on Tatooine at this point) realistically could have gotten involved.

“So anyway,” McGregor added, “maybe if there was [a third season of Andor], I could have squeezed in there, if only. There’s always a chance that maybe there’s a story that’s happening at the same time where it kind of crosses over. So there’s always a chance if Disney is listening — hypothetically, hypothetically. Come on, Disney.”

For now, Disney is busy with a second season of Ahsoka, while The Mandalorian and Grogu is headed to theaters. Other movie plans include the Ryan Gosling and Matt Smith-starring Star Wars: Starfighter, and a number of projects that include the return of Daisy Ridley’s Rey.
