Peaky Blinders Will Get 2 Seasons of a New Sequel Spinoff Series — And Yes, Cillian Murphy Is Involved

Calling all Peaky Blinders fans — we’re headed back to the world of the Shelbys. A sequel series has officially been greenlit for a two-season order from Netflix and the BBC.

The new show will be set in Britain in 1953 and has yet to announce any casting decisions made for the series, which will be split into six hour-long episodes per season. That said, there is one exciting thing about the new series that has been made public: original star Cillian Murphy has signed on as executive producer.

According to the BBC, the official synopsis reads: “Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel. In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

Creator Steven Knight gushed in a statement, saying: “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”

Fans of Peaky Blinders have a lot to look forward to in the near future, as there is already a film sequel set to debut next year. The movie is called The Immortal Man and is supposed to pick up where the last season of the series ended. Murphy will return to star in the film alongside a supporting cast that includes Stephen Graham, Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, and Rebecca Ferguson.

So far, we don’t have official release dates for the new sequel series or the upcoming film, but considering we’re nearing the end of the year, announcements should be coming soon enough.
