Samsung partners with Coinbase for crypto services

Samsung Electronics has partnered with Coinbase to allow smartphone users to purchase cryptocurrency through the phone’s payment app.

The electronics manufacturer said that the collaboration will give those with Samsung Galaxy smartphones more options for managing their investments and accessing money on its platform.

Through Samsung Wallet, Samsung said users can view their crypto holdings, make mobile transactions, instalment payments, and peer-to-peer transfers, as well as consolidate their digital essentials, including IDs, memberships and digital keys.

Under the agreement, Samsung Wallet users will also now have access to a free three-month subscription to Coinbase One, a premium membership offering zero trading fees on select assets, boosted staking rewards, and partner offers.

Additionally, Samsung said users will receive a free $25 credit after placing their first trade on Coinbase.

The service is currently available to over 75 million Samsung Galaxy smartphone users in the US, with the company saying it has plans to expand the service to more users in the coming months.

“Millions of Galaxy users rely on their smartphone to complete everyday tasks, and that goes far beyond communication — it’s paying in-store, unlocking a car, showing an ID, and more,” said Drew Blackard, senior vice president of mobile product management at Samsung Electronics America. “Samsung Wallet enables each of these experiences and we’re continuing to expand its functionality.

“With our Coinbase partnership, Galaxy users have a simple and streamlined way to access crypto from a leader in the industry.”
