First Look at HBO Harry Potter Series’ Cast in Hogwarts Robes, And Quidditch Teacher Madam Hooch

New photos from the set of HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter TV series have given fans their first look at the show’s cast in Hogwarts robes — which have been given a makeover from the previous movies.

Harry Potter actor Dominic McLaughlin can be seen wearing a burgundy cloak, rather than the plain black coloring seen in the franchise’s big-screen adaptation.

Is this color a nod to the house colors of Gryffindor? It’s hard to tell, though a glimpse of Lox Pratt, the young who plays Draco Malfoy, gives the impression he’s wearing a slghtly different color indicative of Slytherin.

These latest images, posted on social media by Wizarding World Direct, appear to show the filming of the first book’s flying lesson scene, in which Draco steals Neville’s Remembrall.

The photos also provide our first look at Sherlock actress Louise Brealey in character as Madam Hooch, Hogwarts’ broomstick instructor, who was previously potrayed by Zoë Wannamaker in the Harry Potter movies. Brealey is dressed in what looks to be a wizard-like version of a waterproof tracksuit — quite a different design to the dark robes Wannamaker wore.

Last month, the Harry Potter TV production surprised fans by filming scenes mentioned but not directly included within the pages of the series’ first book, featuring Dumbledore visiting Nicolas Flamel. But despite the huge interest in the show’s production, fans have only caught glimpses of filming whenever production heads further afield from its base at Warner Bros.’ Leavesdon Studios.

Earlier peeks captured the moment Harry and the Dursleys visited London Zoo, as well as the scene where Hagrid leads Harry through London. Photos taken on that particular occaison prompted criticism from original Harry Potter movie director Chris Columbus, who asked “What’s the point?” of a remake that looked too similar to the original. Defer too much from the books, however, and fans are likely to complain that HBO’s new series is unauthentic.

The Harry Potter TV series is expected to debut on HBO in early 2027, with an eight-episode first season.
