Cyberpunk Trading Card Game Becomes Most-Funded TCG in Kickstarter History

An official Cyberpunk Trading Card Game has raised $7.5 million on Kickstarter, hitting its $100,000 goal in just five minutes and becoming the most-funded trading card game (TCG) in the crowdfunding platform’s history.

Developed by WeirdCo in conjunction with CD Projekt Red, the TCG will bring the Cyberpunk franchise to the “physical trading card space for the first time.” The debut Cyberpunk TCG set, Welcome to Night City, is set to launch later this year, and includes iconic characters like V, Jackie Welles, Johnny Silverhand, and Judy Álvarez. Players can mix and match their favorite characters in competitive decks or personal collections, with Set 2 expanding the game further and fully introducing characters from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Within five minutes of going live, the Kickstarter’s $100,000 goal was met. “Hey chooms, we did it,” the team wrote. “Thanks to your incredible support, Cyberpunk TCG has been funded in just 5 minutes! Seeing the project reach its goal so quickly has been surreal. All of us here at WeirdCo have spent a long time building up to this moment, from designing the cards to developing the gameplay systems, working with amazing artists, and preparing for this campaign launch.”

It didn’t stop there, however. The campaign then sailed past $5 million in “just under three hours,” prompting WeirdCo’s team to write: “You gonks are crazy. We already broke our $3m stretch goal! You’re blowing past these goals before we can ever release them — THANK YOU!”

Unsurprisingly, WeirdCo has now added further stretch goals, including a Legend Pack Upgrade: Johnny Silverhand at $8.5 million, card sleeves at $9 million, and another legend pack upgrade, this time Saburo Arasaka, at $9.5 million. Hit the heady $10 million milestone, and all backers from Common Cyberdecks to Night City Legend tiers will receive a Kickstarter exclusive Nova Rare Rebecca: Having a Moment card, and one additional Legend Pack will be added to the Beta Box.

Pledge rewards start from $49 for two starter decks.

By contributing to the Kickstarter fund, players can access other exclusive items and card arts that will only be available as a Beta products, and enable them to “get in on the ground floor with the community of Cyberpunk TCG and help shape the future direction with your feedback and participation.”

The TCG is, of course, based on CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, the non-linear sci-fi RPG based on renowned pen-and-paper-RPG designer Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk system. CD Projekt recently confirmed it has no plans for additional DLC or expansions for Cyberpunk 2077, even as it is reportedly set to reveal a secret DLC for The Witcher 3.
