Amazon’s Tomb Raider Series Pauses Production Following ‘Minor Injury’ to Star Sophie Turner

The filming of Amazon MGM Studios’ live action Tomb Raider series has been temporarily stopped due to an injury to star Sophie Turner, reports Deadline.

“Sophie Turner recently experienced a minor injury,” the studio explained in a statement. “As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.”

It has not been clarified whether Turner picked up the injury on set, though the pause in production is reportedly only expected to last two weeks.

Amazon revealed a first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in January this year. At a minimum, Turner (famous for her role as Sansa Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones) appears to be sporting a look that’s immediately adjacent to classic Lara Croft, from her dual thigh holsters to her red-tinted sunglasses.

Alongside Turner the series will feature Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein. The iconic Sigourney Weaver will also be a part of the cast, playing a new character not previously featured in the games.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) is aboard the series as creator, writer, executive producer, and is co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge (Good Behavior). Jonathan Van Tulleken (Shōgun) is on deck as director.

No release date for the series has been confirmed at this stage.
