Square Enix has finally revealed Final Fantasy VII Remake part three, called Revelation. It’s due out simultaneously across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store in spring 2027.
Revelation concludes the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, following Final Fantasy VII remake’s release in 2020, and Rebirth’s release in 2024. Here’s the official blurb from Square Enix:
In this climactic conclusion, Cloud Strife and his loyal companions face a world that teeters on the brink of annihilation. Grieving a beloved ally, and with their nemesis Sephiroth nearing godhood, the party takes to the skies aboard the airship Highwind in a race against time to stop Meteor, the ultimate destructive magic, and the total obliteration of the planet.
With deft gunslinger Vincent Valentine and cantankerous pilot Cid Highwind aboard, the heroic team will journey freely across the entire planet and explore expansive new areas, harness a new job system in combat and forge unbreakable bonds to overcome the greatest threat they’ve ever faced.
Square Enix announced Revelation at Summer Game Fest alongside a debut trailer showing the game’s cast of now familiar characters in the nation of Wutai. We also learned that Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind are playable characters alongside Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Red XIII, Yuffie, Cait Sith.
Square Enix has said that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will feature its most expansive open world yet which you’ll able to explore aboard the Highwind, seamlessly skydiving from the airship to the world below. The entire planet serves as the stage for your adventure, Square Enix said. In addition to areas featured in previous entries, players can explore newly introduced regions, such as Mideel and Wutai.
And as we see in the trailer, Weapons finally make an appearance. As Final Fantasy 7 fans will know, Weapons are monstrous guardians awakened by the planet itself to defend against Meteor. “Indiscriminate in their destruction, even the Weapons are enemies that Cloud and his companions must stand against,” Square Enix said.
The new combat system, called FITS, lets you change your characters’ combat style by equipping different outfits, each unlocking unique abilities and expanding your strategic options. Alongside FITS, you can customize your build with weapons and materia to prepare your team.
For example, The Warrior Enhances offensive capabilities, enabling a wide range of aggressive playstyles. The Black Mage, however, specializes in offensive magic, enabling spell-focused combat. “Achieve new heights of power with this system by equipping unique outfits that bestow new movesets, evoking classic Final Fantasy jobs like Warrior and Black Mage,” Square Enix said. “Enjoy each distinct look as you refine your build to suit your playstyle and develop your strategy.”
Here’s everything announced at Summer Game Fest 2026 if you need a catch up on what the video game industry has in store.
