Watch Mortal Kombat II Movie’s Exclusive First 10 Minutes

Ahead of its release on digital platforms on June 9, 2026 and on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on July 28, 2026, IGN can exclusively share the (very red band) first 10 minutes of Mortal Kombat II. The sequence can be watched via the player above or the embedded video below.

The opening 10 minutes serves as a brief origin story for Kitana (Adeline Rudolph). The sequence is set in the past and sees Emperor Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford) face off against King Jerrod of Edenia (Desmond Chiam) as the latter’s wife and daughter – Queen Sindel (Ana Thu Nguyen) and young Princess Kitana (Sophia Xu), respectively – watch on in horror. The film then jumps forward in time to show a now adult Kitana training with Jade (Tati Gabrielle).

The New Line Cinema sequel sees Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage join the fan favorite champions in a viciously epic battle to save Earthrealm from the wicked Shao Kahn.

The cast of Mortal Kombat II also includes Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Max Huang as Kung Lao, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion.

The Mortal Kombat II 4K UHD, and Blu-ray contains the following special features:

  • Mortal Kombat II: Evolving the Saga (Featurette)
    • Returning characters, new alliances and even bigger fatalities! Go behind the scenes to learn all that went into creating the latest chapter in the Mortal Kombat film saga and how the sequel expands the universe to bolder, bloodier heights.
  • Building the Realms of Mortal Kombat (Featurette)
    • From the decaying streets of Edenia to the terrifying Pit featured in the iconic video game series, discover how the Mortal Kombat II design teams blended practical sets with groundbreaking VFX to create the legendary realms in the film.
  • Mortal Kombat II: Choose Your Fighter (Featurette)
    • Awaken your Arcana as you meet the cast and explore the brutal weapons, epic costumes and fierce training that went into bringing their characters to life.
  • Klose Quarters Kombat (Featurette)
    • Cast members and key creatives share insights into how the stunt preparation, intense fight scenes and weapons training shaped both classic moves and new, merciless combat styles.
  • A “Boon” to Gamers Everywhere (Featurette)
    • Sit down with chief Mortal Kombat mythmaker and creator Ed Boon for a deep dive into the franchise’s storied history and ongoing evolution that spans three decades of near-infinite games, films and comics, culminating with the live-action sequel.

Simon McQuoid returns to direct the follow up to his 2021 original film, from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, based on the videogame created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The movie is produced by Todd Garner, E. Bennett Walsh, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, and Simon McQuoid, and executive produced by Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Jeremy Slater, Ed Boon and Lawrence Kasanoff.

IGN’s Max Scoville gave the film an 8 out of 10, writing in his Mortal Kombat II review that the movie “might not be Oscar-caliber cinema, and hardcore fans of the game with encyclopedic knowledge of the game may have a bone to pick, but it’s big and loud and gruesome and not afraid to have fun. The bar for video game movie sequels isn’t very high, but this one not only clears the bar, it twirls it around like a bo staff.”
