Capcom Pulls Dragon’s Dogma 2 Microtransactions Ahead of Dark Arisen Expansion

Capcom Pulls Dragon’s Dogma 2 Microtransactions Ahead of Dark Arisen Expansion

Capcom has announced plans to pull Dragon’s Dogma 2 microtransactions from sale ahead of the release of the Dark Arisen expansion.

The company will discontinue the Deluxe Edition of the action RPG as well as “certain DLC items” on June 24. This comes alongside a permanent discount for the digital version of the base game.

In a post on social media, Capcom listed the microtransactions it was pulling from sale, including the character editor and the warp location marker.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 was criticized at launch back in 2024 for its microtransactions, with over 21 available on launch day. These ranged in price from $0.99 to $4.99, and included an Explorer’s Camping Kit for $2.99, a $0.99 gaol key that lets you escape from gaol but breaks after a single use, a Portcrystal warp location marker that costs $2.99, and $0.99 Wakestones that restore the dead to life.

While these microtransaction items were easily obtainable in-game through simply playing, and many never felt the need to spend money on them, they sparked controversy not just for the sheer number available day-one, but because they made parts of the game deliberately designed to challenge players in certain ways either easier, less frustrating, or quicker. Modders ended up making these items available in unlimited numbers in response.

Capcom has already released a major title update for Dragon’s Dogma 2, and plans another for the end of August that will improve the frame-rate, add additional save slots, and make a number of quality-of-life improvements. Dark Arisen itself launches on October 9 2026.
