Backrooms Now Available to Preorder on Blu-ray and 4K UHD With ‘Nearly 3 Hours of Special Features’

A24 has revealed the 4K UHD and Blu-ray release information for Backrooms, the studio’s highest-grossing movie of all time. Both formats come with “nearly three hours of bonus features,” including the “Everything Must Go” bonus footage that was shown for a limited time in theaters. Both formats are also now available to preorder exclusively from the A24 Shop and are expected to ship in late August.

Keep up. It only gets better. A24 Shop Exclusive Blu-ray & 4K editions of Kane Parsons’ Backrooms are now available for preorder.

The 4K UHD edition of Backrooms is listed for $35, while the Standard HD Blu-ray is listed for $30. Subscribers to the AAA24 membership program may apply their 10% discount to the purchase. These editions will remain exclusive to the A24 Store, though it’s possible the film gets more variants from other retailers down the line.

The disc, as well as a number of extras, come packaged in a case that shows the iconic yellow walls of the titular Backrooms. The outer case features Renate Reinsve in her role as Dr. Mary Kline, while the inner case offers a glimpse of Chiwetel Ejiofor as Clark.

The yellow theme is interrupted once you open up the case, which features an image from Clark spending the night in his furniture store soon before discovering where it has the ability to lead him. The disc itself has the same yellow theme along with some blue packing tape, a reference to what Clark uses to mark “no-clipping” spots.

Expected to Ship in Late August

Backrooms Blu-ray

Both editions, with their hours of extra footage, are detailed below:

  • “Everything Must Go” Bonus Footage (16m)
  • Feature commentary with Director Kane Parsons, VFX Supervisor Edward J Douglas, Sound Designer Eugenio Battaglia, and Composer Edo Van Breemen
  • “Building the Backrooms” Featurette (26m)
  • VFX & Scene Breakdown with Kane Parsons (16m)
  • Prop Walkthrough with Kane Parsons (1m30s)
  • Two VFX Breakdowns with optional commentary (5m and 2m)
  • Six Collectible Postcards

Images of the collectible postcards, which feature various uncanny rooms and objects, are also available on the A24 Shop listing.

Backrooms is the directorial debut for Kane Parsons, who had previously developed his own lore and video series based on the original copypasta. IGN called the movie “a truly terrifying cinematic rabbit hole” in our review, and the film’s success has led to early discussions of a sequel. The liminal horror movie also just landed on digital platforms and is expected to stream on HBO Max later this year.

Blythe (she/her) is an Audience Development Coordinator at IGN who, when she isn’t following streaming and Blu-ray news, spends way too much time in character customization screens and tracking down collectibles.
