With Just Over 2 Weeks Until Switch 2’s Price Hike, Nintendo is Now Warning In-Store Customers of Cost Increase

Nintendo has begun displaying in-store warnings of its impending Switch 2 price increase.

As announced earlier this year, the Switch 2 will rise in cost on September 1 in the U.S., U.K., and mainland Europe. In Nintendo’s homeland of Japan, this price rise has already taken effect.

From the start of next month, Switch 2 will increase by $50, rising from $449.99 to $499.99 in the U.S., and from $629.99 to $679.99 in Canada. Similar increases are planned for the U.K., where the Switch 2 currently costs £395.99, and Europe, where Switch 2 will rise in price by €30 to €469.99.

Now, U.S. demo kiosk screens have been spotted displaying a notice about the price hike, informing potential customers that they’ll be paying more if they buy Switch 2 from September 1 onwards. It’s a clever tactic, with anyone on the fence about a purchase encouraged to act now or pay more later.

A photo shared on reddit shows a screen warning shoppers that “the suggested retail price of the Nintendo Switch 2 system will increase to $499.99 on September 1,” with the caveat that the “actual price may vary” between retailers.

So, is it worth jumping in now? Well, yes — even before The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches later in 2026, there’s already a host of great Switch 2 exclusives on offer, such as Donkey Kong Bananza, Pokémon Pokopia, and the just-released Splatoon Raiders. You’ll want a Switch 2 next year, too, when Pokémon Winds and Waves roll around.

That said, those on the lookout for a snazzier console design might be tempted by the leaked images of a The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 console and Pro Controller that popped up online this week. These will almost certainly not arrive before that September 1 price rise — and perhaps deliberately so, to give hardware sales a shot in the arm post-price rise.

Upcoming Switch 2 game launches include Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave on September 17, Switch Sports Resort on October 22, and the new Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake before the end of this year. 2027 titles already announced include Xenoblade Genesis, plus Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. That’s on top of the huge Nintendo Switch game catalog, of course, which is backwards compatible.
