Xbox Console Updates Include More Home and Game Library Customization, Plus an Extremely Belated Profile Badge if You Bought an Xbox One Back in 2013

New Xbox console features include a special profile badge if you forked out for an Xbox One on day one back in November 2013.

Microsoft has detailed its latest system updates coming to Xbox Series X/S consoles, including improvements to your home and game library screens, plus more control over your local game saves.

Perhaps most surprising is an extremely belated profile badge to owners of the Xbox One “Day One” achievement, which you could unlock by buying Microsoft’s then-new console back in 2013. As someone who did indeed do this, I remember redeeming the product code on a piece of paper included in the box to get my 0 Gamerscore achievement that confirmed I had indeed purchased Microsoft’s least beloved console generation. And now it is displayed on my Xbox profile, too!

This addition comes amid a refresh for profile badges in general, which now display high-resolution artwork and a description for each.

Perhaps more usefully, you can now further customize your Xbox’s home screen by removing items from the recent games and apps list, including the Play History tile. There’s a cool-looking immersive background mode, too, that you can enter via the R3 button on your controller. This effectively hides all Home UI elements, allowing your background to take center stage.

If you’re looking to free up some hard drive space, another new option lets you browse your local game saves and remove any taking up too much room. They’re all in the cloud, anyway! Removing local copies will tidy up hard drive space and just prompt a quick download of the cloud version the next time you load up your game.

Last but not least, purchased games will now be removed from your purchase wishlist. Handy!

All of these features will begin rolling out to Xbox owners today, though most will arrive slowly, and to Xbox Insiders first as they are bug-tested and approved for wider rollout.

Which are you most looking forward to? And are there any other Xbox One day one owners in the house?
