Sony Confirms 2 PlayStation State of Play Presentations for September 2026

Sony Confirms 2 PlayStation State of Play Presentations for September 2026

Sony has confirmed not one but two PlayStation State of Play presentations will air later this week.

As part of a PlayStation.Blog post, the company revealed the first of the two showcases will start streaming this Thursday, September 3, at 6am PT / 9am ET / 3:00pm CEST / 10:00pm JST. It’s promised to feature “updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners” and will end with an “extended look at the vast world” of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.

Then, immediately after the first show concludes, a State of Play Japan broadcast will begin. Attack on Titan and Octopath Traveler 0 voice actor Yuki Kaji has returned to host the show, which is said to “offer deep dives into upcoming games from game studios in Japan and Asia, including new gameplay, announcements, and more.”

How long each show will be remains unclear, but we can already think of at least a few games that players are hoping to see. Social media feeds have already filled up with mentions of Naughty Dog and its long-awaited sci-fi game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Nearly two years removed from its initial reveal, we’ve still seen very, very little from the studio’s new IP. PlayStation players were already upset to see it absent from June’s show, so let’s hope the September State of Play gives fans at least a little something to hold onto.

Another game on the horizon is Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine. The next installment in its line of superhero video games has a PS5 release date of September 15, a little less than two weeks from when the presentation is set to begin. That makes this week’s show the perfect opportunity for Sony to get its claws firmly into any hesitant fans, even if there isn’t much left to show.

What else can we expect? Well, outside of an even closer look at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, it’s somewhat of a mystery, but if all else fails, you can bet livestream chats will be brimming with at least one topic: physical games. Gaming fans have continued to surround PlayStation with calls for Sony to ditch its plan to kill physical disc support in January 2028, and this week’s presentation will likely be no different.

We’ll know more about what Sony is planning for the next chapter of the PS5 when its two State of Play showcases air later this week. Until then, you can see why Sony said the discontinuation of physical discs will never have a negative impact on its business.
