Bloodborne movie producer and YouTuber Jacksepticeye has teased more details about the upcoming animated adaptation after reactions to his involvement were “80% critical.”
The famed content creator, whose real name is Seán McLoughlin, touched on his attachment to Sony’s animated take on FromSoftware’s beloved action game during an interview with 100 Questions with Tom Simmons (via GamesRadar). He took the opportunity to not only tease how his Bloodborne won’t retell the story of the franchise’s one and only proper installment, but also discussed how fans reacted to his role as its producer.
“Bloodborne, obviously, is my favorite game ever, so when I got that call, part of me is like… obviously I was going to do anything, but I wouldn’t have let it go in a direction that I don’t think is worthy of the Bloodborne IP,” Jacksepticeye explained. Then, when asked if he was feeling the pressure to deliver, he said, “Oh yeah.”
“I’d say 80% of the responses were critical of it,” he said, referring to his involvement in the animated film. “I don’t want to say ‘negative,’ because a lot of people were just… I would be the same if someone took my beloved IP, that’s my favorite, and then some YouTuber’s attached to it. It would just make you scratch your head a little bit.”
Sony unholstered its plans for an animated R-rated Bloodborne movie back at CinemaCon 2026 in April. For some, the reveal was a bit of a double-edged sword, as begging to see more from FromSoftware’s Lovecraftian action-horror universe seemed to deliver a project that came out of left field in more ways than one.
Jacksepticeye, a self-proclaimed Bloodborne fanatic, is in the mix as one of its producers. He’s joined by PlayStation Productions and Lyrical Animation. Shortly after its reveal, the YouTuber called the opportunity “a dream come true” and “the honor of my life.”
He also acknowledged that a lot of Bloodborne fans were probably surprised to hear his name attached to an official project in that universe. Regardless of the shock, it’s not a project he wants anyone to be worried about, saying that he “will fight tooth and nail to make this thing the best it possibly can be.”
When asked during the new interview about what fans can look forward to when it comes to the animated movie, Jacksepticeye assured watchers that he’s “not trying to be the game.”
“I’m not trying to one-up the game, and I’m not trying to compete with it, or tell the same story,” he explained. “I’m trying to honor the universe that’s there and tell as good a story as I can within it.”
He continued, saying he has “quite a bit” of sway in the overall production and direction of the Bloodborne movie. During calls about the project, he said that “people listen to me above most anyone else.”
“I’m the one being like, ‘This is a good idea. This is a bad idea. We shouldn’t do this,'” Jacksepticeye elaborated. “But also, I’m the one greenlighting who gets hired and who we work with to make sure that vetting process is good.
“You don’t want to bring on anyone that has no idea what Bloodborne is. In simpler terms, I’m sort of the vibe-checker.”
