Wardogs Streamer Banned for Exploiting the Game’s Building Mechanics to Get Rich

A vtuber is at the center of a controversy in the Wardogs community surrounding exploits. The first-person shooter allows players to roleplay as a part of the war effort, taking to the front lines, running logistics in trucks, and building forward-operating bases (FOB) for their allies to control sections of the map.

Everything a player does — from recon to taxi driving their soldiers back into battle — earns them in-game money as a merc, which can then be spent on unlocking equipment and better loadouts. At the end of the season (or whenever the player chooses to trade their ill-gotten merc gains), money left over is converted into gold — a fluctuating economy of premium currency that can be spent on cosmetics.

Streamer KatieRouu was banned from the game for using exploits to take advantage of these systems. The streamer and their friends would place dozens of sniper lookout towers around a FOB and purposely let the enemy team take the base over, switching those buildings to enemy control.

even someone in the squad @KatieRouu was playing with knew what they were doing is not allowed and she dismisses his statement as if what she’s doing is perfectly fine…

then proceeded to go against the CEO for her ban on a post saying

“So tell me what the exploit was.”

Once control was switched to the enemy team, KatieRouu and their squad would sit in another FOB that they’d supplied with ammunition, firing mortars at the base they’d allowed to be captured. With the money generated from destroying enemy structures and the money gained from assists (from supplying the ammo to the new base), the squad would rack up big money without actually contributing to their team’s war effort.

Joe Brammer, the CEO of Wardogs developer Bulkhead, responded to the ban: “Hey Katie, firstly thanks for streaming Wardogs. From what we can see you’ve been a completely regular player and someone who’s supported the game.

“Secondly, let’s be real here. You know it, I know it… you were taking advantage of an exploit. It’s obviously not an intended part of the game, had you raised it to us that’d be great… but running up millions for lots of players and promoting the exploit was absolutely not on. We can see that lots of the players involved immediately converted the cash they’d made via the exploit into gold bars and purchasing skins… so there was no gameplay there, nothing organic, purely a cash loop that you took advantage of.

“I wasn’t directly involved but I can see the ban team acted appropriately, if anything they were lenient compared to what we had said on Steam. This exploit has been fixed for Season 2. We have also added data tracking for the behaviour and events now.

“Sorry for the ban, I can see you were going to stream tonight, but the rules are there for a reason. Hope we can at the very least, agree to disagree.

While some players have defended the streamer, arguing that they used legitimate game mechanics to generate the money, the Wardogs developer reiterated its stance. “We made it clear that known cash & xp exploit abuse will no longer be tolerated,” the official account posted on Twitter. “These punishments will stand. This decision is final.”
