Ikea Switzerland has launched JobBot, a new recruitment tool that allows candidates to apply for roles at the furniture retailer via WhatsApp.
A pre-written chatbot guides candidates through the process and filters positions based on information the candidate has given to the bot when creating their profile.
JobBot operates without AI-driven decision-making technology, which Ikea said gives it “complete control” over the interaction and allows it to meet GDPR requirements as well as the company’s Global Digital Ethics Policy.
Ikea said the tool will simplify the recruitment process by automating administrative tasks and improve the experience for job candidates as they do not need to leave WhatsApp in order to apply.
An additional talent pool feature ensures that candidates who may not immediately secure a role are retained for future opportunities, which Ikea said will allow it to quickly re-connect with qualified individuals.
By centralising communication and automating tasks, Ikea said JobBot allows recruiters to spend more time building connections and guiding candidates through the application process once they have settled on a role to apply for.
Ananda Buchmüller, project and employer branding and talent sourcing leader, said the technology represented a unique opportunity to transform recruitment by cultivating meaningful and lasting relationships with candidates, adding that the tool will allow recruiters to focus on understanding the individuals behind the applications, assessing their role fit, and exploring their broader career aspirations.
“At IKEA, we believe that people make the difference and we recruit based on values, focusing on the person rather than just the CV,” Buchmüller added. “The Ikea JobBot bridges the gap between people and technology, enhancing communication and providing access to a valuable, interactive talent pool.”
