AIB deployed a suite of Microsoft Copilot AI tools to its 10,000 employees as it seeks to further promote AI adoption within the organisation.

Through a partnership with Microsoft Ireland, the implementation will incorporate Copilot’s AI capabilities into everyday tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint.

AI tools will be integrated to optimise forecasting, support planning and enhance collaboration by aligning project updates across teams, with the aim of reducing time spent on repetitive tasks, the firm said.

According to the bank, AIB’s digital innovation-focused AI Centre of Excellence has already been using Copilot Studio to develop bespoke AI solutions, such as tools for teams to quickly synthesise customer information from complex data sources.

AIB said it is also planning to introduce an enterprise-grade AI coding tool to accelerate software development with GitHub Copilot to help its engineers develop more innovative solutions.

The AI pair programmer developed by GitHub and OpenAI is designed to assist developers with coding tasks, providing code suggestions, completions, and generates code based on natural language prompts or existing code context.

AIB cited research by Microsoft and Trinity College Dublin which suggests that AI is expected to add €250 billion to the Irish economy by 2035.

According to the data, AI adoption in Ireland has risen to 91 per cent, almost doubling from 49 per cent in 2024.

AIB’s chief technology officer Graham Fagan, said: “We’ve been exploring AI’s potential with our employees through collaboration and testing, and now we’re scaling it across the organisation to deliver smarter, faster, and more meaningful outcomes for our customers and our people.”
