Amazon to invest $233m to expand India operations in 2025

Amazon will invest over $233 million in India during 2025 to enhance its operations infrastructure, improve employee well-being programmes, and develop new technology for its fulfilment network.

The investment forms part of Amazon’s commitment to building India’s safest, fastest, and most reliable operations network, building upon the company’s existing investments in creating infrastructure that serves all serviceable pin-codes across the country.

“For over a decade now in India, we have been focused on building the best-in-class logistics infrastructure—designed to deliver with safety, speed, scale, and reliability for our customers across the country. These latest investments reflect our commitment to continually expand and upgrade our operations across our fulfilment, sortation, and delivery network,” said Abhinav Singh, vice president of operations for Amazon India and Australia.

The funds will be used to enhance processing capacity, improve fulfilment speed, and increase efficiency across Amazon’s operations network to serve customers faster and more reliably. The investment will also support the launch of new facilities and upgrades to existing sites across the fulfilment and delivery network.

Amazon’s fulfilment centres are designed to be accessible to people with disabilities, featuring improvements in cooling solutions, safety initiatives, and resting areas. Both existing and new buildings in Amazon’s operations network incorporate state-of-the-art technology and efficient building systems to minimise energy usage.

The company will expand several employee well-being initiatives, including Ashray, which provides dedicated rest points for delivery associates with air-conditioned seating, water, charging stations, and washroom facilities. The Samridhi programme focuses on financial education and personal finance support for associates and drivers, while Pratidhi provides scholarships for children of associates.

Amazon India recently launched a nationwide initiative to offer free health check-ups to over 80,000 delivery associates and partners through medical camps by the end of 2025.

Technology upgrades will include tools to alert delivery associates about unsafe speeds and encourage rest breaks, systems to measure route complexity and ensure equitable distribution of delivery routes, and a new Helmet Adherence Application to verify proper helmet use before trips begin.

“By strengthening our infrastructure capabilities, enhancing processing capacity, and implementing state-of-the-art technology, we’re positioning Amazon to better serve customers throughout India while supporting our employees, associates and partners who are the heart of it all,” Singh added.

The investment comes as Amazon competes with other major e-commerce players in India’s growing digital marketplace.
