Anthropic walks away from reported $6bn Decart acquisition

Anthropic walks away from reported bn Decart acquisition

Anthropic has abandoned talks to acquire artificial intelligence start-up Decart for about $6 billion, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, after the Claude maker completed due diligence on the company.

Anthropic had been exploring the acquisition but ultimately decided against proceeding, according to people familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified. The two companies could still pursue other forms of collaboration, one of the sources said, while representatives for both companies declined to comment.

The potential deal, first reported in August, had been valued at roughly $6 billion, although negotiations had not been finalised and could have collapsed. Decart was valued at almost $4 billion in a $300 million funding round announced in May, making the proposed transaction substantially more expensive than its latest private valuation.

The acquisition was understood to have focused on Decart’s technology for improving the efficiency of computing hardware rather than its better-known work on AI-generated video and world models. Its optimisation stack is designed to improve the performance of chips used for both training AI models and inference, potentially allowing Anthropic to handle more demand with its existing computing infrastructure.

Anthropic has been investing heavily in computing capacity as it develops new products and serves growing demand for its AI services. People familiar with preparations for the company’s anticipated initial public offering have said it is seeking to raise as much as SpaceX or more in what could become one of the largest technology listings.

Decart’s May funding round was led by Radical Ventures and included Nvidia, Atreides Management, Valor Equity Partners and Adobe Ventures, alongside existing investors including Sequoia Capital, Benchmark and Zeev Ventures. The round valued the start-up at almost $4 billion, up from $3.1 billion in August 2025, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Decart was founded in 2023 by brothers Dean and Orian Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev. Its products include world models designed to simulate physical environments, with potential applications including autonomous driving and e-commerce.

Chief executive Dean Leitersdorf told Bloomberg at a conference in Paris in July that Decart trains its AI using text and millions of hours of video to understand real-world physical properties. The company’s Lucy model can generate real-time video of people appearing to wear products, while eBay is both an investor and customer.
