Archie Andrews is one of the oldest and most enduring characters in the comic book world, and he’s about to experience his strangest reboot ever in 2026. Today, Archie Comics revealed that they’re partnering with Oni Press to completely reimagine Archie and the Riverdale gang for a postmodern audience.
The two publishers will collaborate next year on a trio of new ongoing monthly series from some of the most unique voices in the industry. The creators involved include Ice Cream Man’s W. Maxwell Prince, Casanova’s Fábio Moon, and Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees’ Patrick Horvath.
First up is the flagship Archie series in September 2026, which will be written by Prince and illustrated by Moon and Nick Cagnetti (Spirit of the Shadows). That series will be followed in October by Sabrina the Teenage Witch, written by Corinna Bechko (Green Lantern: Earth One) and illustrated by Kano (Gotham Central), and in November by Archie in Hell, written by Horvath and illustrated by Tyler Crook (Harrow County).
This new line of comics serves as a completely fresh start for the franchise, with the publishers drawing comparisons to DC’s All-Star Superman. It’s timed to coincide with the 85th anniversary of Archie’s debut in 1941’s Pep Comics #22.
“Mark your calendars: 2026 is going to be a major milestone for one of the most important brands in comics, as an immensely talented cast of creators comes together to simultaneously honor and reinvent Riverdale in ways never before attempted,” Oni Press Publisher Hunter Gorinson tells IGN. “We’ve been working behind the scenes for many months now to assemble an ambitious, multi-year plan that will see Archie, Betty and Veronica, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and so many more of these beloved comics icons step into hugely inventive new series that will channel Archie’s distinct storytelling power and joyful spirit for this unique moment in American history. Much like the Barbie movie or All-Star Superman before them, these are stylish and bold introductions that will tell us everything we need to know about these characters – and a lot about ourselves, too. We’re aiming to make these no less than the most compelling, surprising, and compulsively readable new series of the year, full stop.”
Oni will follow up these three titles in 2027 with a new line of middle-grade and YA graphic novels set in their own continuity. More information about those books will be revealed in 2026. The publisher will also reprint classic Archie Comics material in a new series of trade paperbacks, hardcovers, and box sets.
