Avengers: Doomsday Leak Leaves Fans Worried That Endgame’s Happy Ending Will Be Swiftly Undone

Marvel set photos have left fans thinking that a key part of Avengers: Endgame’s finale will be swiftly undone, as Doctor Doom’s multiversal reign of terror begins in Avengers: Doomsday.

Warning! Possible spoilers for Avengers: Doomsday follow.

Leaked images show a series of vintage cars parked nearby a familiar-looking house, in a set built within the grounds of London’s Windsor Park, where Doomsday has been filming.

Fans say the traditional-looking house appears to be the same one lived in by Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame, after Captain America goes back in time to live out his life quietly with his old sweetheart. And, certainly, the vintage cars would also fit the time period.

But while some fans are rejoicing at the prospect of seeing Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers and Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter once more, others have immediately sounded the alarm that the couple will be brought back to undo their ‘happy ever after’ finale, as Doctor Doom hunts down any disruptions to the normal flow of reality within the multiverse.

Remember, of course, that the Avengers meddled with the multiverse in order to pull off Endgames’ “time heist” — which was really more of a multiversal heist, as per the film’s own rules of time travel. (A quick reminder of how Endgame laid it out — essentially, you cannot go back in time to change your future, only create a new branched reality instead. So yes, sadly, Back to the Future isn’t possible.)

With numerous MCU projects since Endgame showing the increasing fragility of the multiverse (Loki, The Marvels, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness) and the end of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga looming, it would certainly make sense for Doctor Doom to be hunting down anyone he deems in violation of the multiverse’s rules.

Behind the scenes, a return for Captain America and Peggy Carter would of course provide an immediate hook for audiences who might have tuned out of the MCU in the years since Endgame, by bringing back a pair of familiar faces from the Russo Brothers’ previous Marvel extravaganza. And it’d also ensure two of the franchise’s biggest stars, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., were once again going toe-to-toe.

In-universe, some fans believe there’s room to tell further stories with Steve Rogers’ Captain America, who, of course, reappeared in Endgame’s then-present as an old man, reluctant to explain what exactly he’d been up to. Perhaps Doomsday is being written explicitly to fill in that gap, and the old Cap we saw had already lived through Doomsday’s events?

Back in 2021, Joe Russo even hinted that he and his brother Anthony had a clear idea for what had happened with Steve Rogers, even if audiences were left with questions based on what they say happen on screen.

“One thing that’s clear that Anthony and I have discussed, I don’t know that we’ve discussed this publicly at all, Cap would have had to have travelled back to the main timeline,” Joe Russo explained. “That’s something that, yes, he would have been in a branch reality, but he would have to travel back to the main timeline to give that shield to Sam Wilson.”

Fans will have to wait and see exactly how it will all play out, however, with Avengers: Doomsday currently set to launch in theaters on December 18, 2026.
