Batman: Knightfall to Get Multi-Part Animated Movie Adaptation

Warner Bros. Animation, DC, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced at New York Comic Con on Friday that the iconic early ‘90s DC Comics storyline Batman: Knightfall is being adapted into a multi-part animated film.

The movie – directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams – is currently in production for a 2026 release. The official plot synopsis for Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall follows:

“When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.”

The movie’s logo can be seen below.

Behind the scenes, Rick Morales serves as Supervising Producer alongside Producers Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau. Sam Register and Michael Uslan are Executive Producers on Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall.

The famous comics run Batman: Knightfall was created by Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, Dennis O’Neil, Peter David, Jo Duffy, Jim Aparo, Graham Nolan, Norm Breyfogle, and Jim Balent.

Although Batman: Knightfall came in at #15 on IGN’s picks for the top 27 best Batman comics and graphic novels, we still expressed mixed feelings about its execution:

“Knightfall is an example of a story that overcomes the shortcomings of its art and writing, which were flawed if only because of several change-ups over its publication … The story shows why Bruce Wayne’s morality makes him the ideal Batman. He is uniquely suited to be the kind of hero that Gotham needs, which is made plain by juxtaposing him with the murderous Azreal.”

Elements of Batman: Knightfall made their way into Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises where Tom Hardy’s Bane broke Batman’s back and took over Gotham City.

No word yet on the voice cast or the first trailer for Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall will be revealed.
