Battlefield 6 Developer Triggers Queue System for Launch as Fans Immediately Face Full Servers

Battlefield 6 is out now, and in the blink of an eye the game’s servers became full with hundreds of thousands of players waiting to get in on the action.

IGN was among the many facing server queues today, October 10, as the developers at Battlefield Studios braced themselves for the incoming horde.

At the time of this article’s publication, less than an hour after Battlefield 6 went live, it had a staggering 606,000 concurrent players on Steam. The true concurrent number will be much bigger, but Microsoft and Sony do not make Xbox and PlayStation player numbers public.

EA issued a statement saying it anticipated many players logging in at the same time at launch, and had added a queue system for this “peak” moment.

“A short update on login queues as we prepare for the launch of Battlefield 6 later today,” reads the statement.

“Battlefield 6 launches today at 15:00 UTC and we anticipate many of you to login at the same time during this initial moment.

“To help ensure a smooth and stable login experience for everyone, we’re adding a queue system during this and other peak moments.

“Thanks for your patience as we launch Battlefield 6!”

In a more recent statement, EA said it was letting as many players in as it could, so queues should be “relatively short.”

“With the game now live, many of you are jumping in at the same time,” EA said. “To help keep things smooth and stable for everyone, login queues are active during this peak launch moment. We’re letting as many of you in as we can, so queues should be relatively short. Steam users please note that if the “Play” button does not show, restarting the Steam client will resolve this issue. Thanks for your patience, and enjoy the launch of Battlefield 6!”

The big launch queues follow comments from one Battlefield 6 developer who said the game’s servers “should” be ready for today’s release date, and that the recent open beta “helped gauge the interest.” While you wait, check out IGN’s Battlefield 6 multiplayer review in progress, our Battlefield 6 campaign review, and what to expect from Battlefield Season 1.
