Construction Has Officially Begun on Disney Cruise Line’s Fourth Wish-Class Ship as Disney Celebrates With Its Steel Cutting Ceremony

Disney invited IGN to be part of the Steel Cutting ceremony of Disney Cruise Line’s next Wish-Class ship, which is the special moment when construction officially begins on the vessel that will set sail in 2027.

We were in Papenburg, Germany, for the Float Out of the Disney Destiny, which was the milestone when the ship leaves its dry dock at the Meyer Werft shipyard before it makes the voyage across the Atlantic Ocean to its home port of Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades, and the Steel Cutting ceremony was a surprise addition to our agenda.

The Float Out itself was a big occasion for many reasons, but one of them is that this next Wish-class ship, which already includes the Wish, Treasure, and Destiny, can now begin construction since the Destiny has left the dry dock where the new ship will be built.

Alongside Captain Mickey, there were many members of Disney Signature Experiences, Walt Disney Imagineering Germany, Meyer Werft, and more in attendance. Captain Mickey led a countdown and then he pressed a big red button that activated a laser-cutting machine that began cutting a piece of steel. One of these pieces was cut into the shape of a cruise ship and was signed by members of the team and will one day live aboard the ship.

We don’t know anything else about this new ship yet, but it will have the same layout as the other three ships in its class. However, just like the other three, the spaces inside can vary from ship to ship. For example, The Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny both have the Haunted Mansion Parlor, but only the Treasure has the Plaza de Coco dining experience and only the Destiny has The Lion King-themed Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King dining experience.

As for the Destiny, it will make its Maiden Voyage on November 20, 2025, and will also include Worlds of Marvel, The Incredibles-themed Edna A La Mode Sweets, a Broadway-style Hercules show, De Vil’s Piano Bar, The Haunted Mansion Parlor, the Pirates of the Caribbean-themed Cask & Cannon, the Doctor Strange-inspired The Sanctum, and so much more.
