Curse of Pirates, a Top-Down Pixel-Art Action-Roguelike, Announced for PC

Developer Funky Parrot and publisher HeroCraft PC have announced Curse of Pirates, an upcoming top-down pixel-art pirate action roguelike, Curse of Pirates. In it, you’ll customize your build on each run to survive waves of scoundrels, monsters from the deep, undead pirates, tough bosses, and more.

You can tweak your ship and crew to best fit your personal playstyle as ever-increasing hordes of enemies attempt to sink you. Whirlpools, currents, and islands all affect your navigation as you level up your skills, gather items and buffs to better your chances of survival, and catch historical and pop-culture references thrown at you throughout the campaign.

Funky Parrot cites Hades and Vampire Survivors as major influences on Curse of Pirates, along with Pirates of the Caribbean and Lovecraftian horror. Wishlist it on Steam if you’re interested.

Ryan McCaffrey is IGN’s executive editor of previews and host of both IGN’s weekly Xbox show, Podcast Unlocked, as well as our monthly(-ish) interview show, IGN Unfiltered. He’s a North Jersey guy, so it’s “Taylor ham,” not “pork roll.” Debate it with him on Twitter at @DMC_Ryan.
