Dior deploys AR tech to boost logistics

Dior has partnered with Scandit and Hardis Supply Chain as it implemented a new AR-powered software that aims to improve warehouse management while providing real-time insights.

The company has integrated Scandit’s intelligence data capture technology into new warehouse management software (WMS) from Hardis Supply Chain to enable warehouse teams to scan multiple barcodes simultaneously through its order preparation app, with the aim of further increasing operational efficiency.

Dior explained that data captured by the technology is verified in the new WMS, with immediate feedback displayed on screen via AR, guiding warehouse operators with intuitive user interface gestures.

The software is used during the order preparation process in the warehouse and for in-store price updates to more easily locate correct items.

During the preparation process, the software highlights the correct item on the worker’s device screen using AR.

Instead of searching through the shelves, the worker sees a digital indicator, such as a tick or a glow, directly on the product barcode.

Dior said the move is aimed at speeding up picking, reducing errors during order preparation, and ensuring smoother order fulfilment.

According to the company, the new cloud-based WMS software has already reduced shipment verification times by 85 per cent.

With the WMS and data capture software installed on handheld computers, workers can automate a range of other warehouse tasks, including goods receipt, using the devices they already have.

The advanced AI-powered barcode scanning technology enables the scanning and reading of damaged, poorly printed, and even partially visible barcodes, with the aim of increasing user productivity and simplifying daily tasks.

“Dior’s vision demonstrates how smart data capture can revolutionise logistics,” said Samuel Mueller, chief executive and cofounder at Scandit.

He added that the partnership shows how AI and AR can be combined to give frontline workers real-time insights, boost operational processes, and improve supply chain innovation, without the need for additional hardware infrastructure.
