Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away at Walt Disney World Is the Nighttime Parade I’ve Always Been Waiting For

Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away at Walt Disney World is the nighttime parade I’ve always been waiting for, as it celebrates the films and stories we cherish so much while also reminding us of the power of wishing upon a star and that dreams can come true.

Disney Starlight first debuted at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom on July 20, 2025, and this was the first time I had seen it, thanks to the Play ‘n’ Preview event IGN was invited to that showcased a bit of the future of Disney World and allowed us to get a first look at the Pirates of the Caribbean-themed Beak and Barrel.

Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away Nighttime Parade at Walt Disney World

This parade normally runs twice per night at Magic Kingdom and, “through the power of the Blue Fairy’s magic, guests will watch dreams and wishes come true.” This is done via some spectacular floats and characters from Moana, Peter Pan, Encanto, Frozen, Pinocchio, and, of course, Mickey and friends.

However, Starlight is also very much inspired by the beloved Main Street Electrical Parade that originally ran, alongside more recent limited showings, from 1972 to 1996 at Disneyland and 1977 to 1991 at Walt Disney World. This is demonstrated through the addition of a brand-new character, Whimsy the Train, who was inspired by the train float from the Main Street Electrical Parade float that served as an homage to Dumbo’s Casey Junior.

From the start, this parade is full of surprises that are great for all guests but even more special for those who love Disney as much as I do. The parade is led by the Blue Fairy, and there is a super special moment where she uses magic and part of her float becomes transparent, revealing Pinocchio and Geppetto dancing inside. Another involves Moana and Gramma Tala that I won’t spoil here, but suffice to say, the tears began to flow.

There are so many more of these moments, and this roughly 12-minute parade just gets it right on so many levels. To learn a bit more about how Starlight was brought to life, I was able to speak to show director Tara Anderson and Audio Systems Design Manager Clint Clarke at a recent media event.

“Disney Starlight is all about the stories of the Magic Kingdom and the moments that go along with that,” Anderson said. “It’s that idea of having a dream, declaring it, putting it out to the world, going after it, and celebrating it coming true. If you watch the parade, we have so many different moments that hopefully all do that.”

Plain and simple, Disney Starlight gave me that feeling I go to Disney World and Disneyland for.

I then asked both Anderson and Clark why Starlight means so much to them. For Anderson, it was all about the music. There is a main Starlight theme, but each float is accompanied by a version that incorporates songs from the films that inspired it.

“We wanted something that felt ethereal, but also soaring,” Anderson said. “However, it could also be quiet if we wanted it to be quiet. Music is so important to me, right? Music is memory. And hearing the songs made us feel like we did something right here.”

For Clark, it’s the message and meaning that he and the team hope last with each guest long after they leave the park.

“What I love about Starlight, is that we’re igniting that inspiration for the future,” Clark added when asked why Starlight means so much to him. “It gives you enough of a nod to the past that people feel nostalgic, but I bet when you left you were talking about Starlight. It is taking you into the story, infusing it into the DNA of the Magic Kingdom, and giving our guests what they deserve. And that is the magic of Starlight.”

I felt the magic of Starlight that night, and besides Disneyland’s Wondrous Journeys, it may be one of my new favorites in the world of Disney Parks entertainment. Plain and simple, Disney Starlight gave me that feeling I go to Disney World and Disneyland for. It celebrated so much of what we love about these films and parks, and did it in a beautiful way that literally lit up the night and my heart.
