easyGroup enters crypto space with launch of bitcoin app

The owner of brands easyJet and easyHotel is entering the crypto market with the launch of a new mobile app.

easyBitcoin.app is a new platform from easyGroup that enables users to buy and earn bitcoin.

The app is powered by Uphold, the infrastructure provider for on-chain finance.

The company’s founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou said that for too long investing in bitcoin has felt like an “exclusive club” due to “very high transaction costs.”

“With the easyBitcoin.app, we’re aiming to change that and provide simple access via your mobile phone, great value and a focus on earning bitcoin rewards whether you’re buying or simply holding bitcoin,” he continued. “This isn’t just about technology; it’s about financial empowerment and making bitcoin a practical investment option for all.”

The move comes after research from Opinion Matters found that 49 per cent of US consumers said that it is difficult to buy, sell or hold bitcoin, despite nearly 90 per cent saying that they trust the cryptocurrency to grow their money over the next decade.

A UK version of the app is set to launch later in 2025.

Last year, Tyl by NatWest announced a partnership with easyGroup food delivery brand easyFood.

With one terminal the restaurants and takeaways that use Tyl by NatWest will be able to integrate easyFood food ordering and delivery into their business to receive orders and collect payments.

At the time, NatWest said the partnership is one of the first to use card payment terminals for online food ordering, a technology developed and evolved by easyFood since its first device in 2006.
