IGN can exclusively reveal two new Disney Lorcana cards from the upcoming Fabled expansion with some powerful abilities that also honor the history of these characters in clever ways, and they are Ursula – Voice Stealer and the Enchanted version of Cruella – Style Icon.
Fabled is set to be released at local card shops on August 25 and everywhere else on September 5, and Ursula – Voice Stealer will be one of its more powerful cards as she can use her opponents to strengthen her team.
Ursula’s Sing for Me ability lets you exert a chosen opposing ready character and then play a song with a cost that is equal to or less than the exerted character’s cost for free. For those unfamiliar, there are certain Action – Song cards that can turn the tide of a battle, but you need to exert one of your own characters to activate it.
With Ursula – Voice Stealer, you can instead exert an opposing character to activate one of your Song cards. This lets you use a song for free while exerting an opposing character and it allows them to be challenged by your other glimmers.
What’s even more special about this card is how it ties into the lore of Ursula, as she stole Ariel’s voice in The Little Mermaid. Seeing this new Fabled card honor the character featured on it is a prime example of the Disney magic this game has.
Fabled’s Cruella – Style Icon was previously revealed, but we are excited to share the gorgeous Enchanted version of the beloved villain from 101 Dalmatians as our second reveal.
For comparison, here is the standard version of Cruella – Style Icon.
As you can see, the cost and abilities of both Cruella de Vil – Style Icon cards are the same, but there is new art that covers the whole card and shimmers in a beautiful way.
Her first ability is Out of Season, and that lets her player gain ink a lot quicker to be able to play higher cost cards in later turns if they can banish opponents cards during their turns. Insulting Remark, on the other hand, makes every opposing character with cost 2 or less lose 1 point of Strength, which can make getting into challenges on your turn much safer as they’ll take one less damage back.
This card is actually an inspired move by the Lorcana team, as so-called ‘Puppy Decks’ with 101 Dalmatians characters have become very popular. Some of the cards found in those decks can have a cost of 2, including Dalmatian Puppy – Tail Wagger, which lets you have up to 99 copies of itself in your deck. With Cruella de Vil – Style Icon, the villain in Lorcana can get back at these puppies in a way that would make her movie counterpart very proud.
