NPC quests in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree continue the tradition of the base game, remaining as enigmatic and circuitous as ever, never letting the player know exactly what they need to do in order to progress the storyline further.

Fire Knight Queelign is someone players will meet fairly early on in the game as an invader looking to take down the Tarnished for a perceived slight against Marika. It’s possible to encounter Queelign three times. Here are all three locations and all possible decisions for this questline.

Fire Knight Queelign Invasion 1 location in elden ring shadow of the erdtree

The first time players will likely encounter Fire Knight Queelign is in Belurat, Tower Settlement. From the Small Private Altar Site of Grace, take the door north, and you’ll encounter a Horned Warrior patrolling the street. Defeat him and take the northeastern path that leads straight to a large courtyard with a fountain. Approach the fountain, and you’ll be invaded by Fire Knight Queelign. Defeating him will net you the Crusade Insignia.

Fire Knight Queelign Second Location in Shadow of the Erdtree

The second time you’ll meet Fire Knight Queelign is in the Church of the Crusade in Scadu Altus. After defeating Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, and entering Scadu Altus for the first time, you’ll find the Highroad Cross Site of Grace. Directly to the northwest is a hilltop housing the Church of the Crusade. Make your way to this location on Torrent, and enter the Church. Fire Knight Queelign will invade when you approach the headless statue of Marika on the far end. Defeat him to obtain two key items:

The first and second locations are interchangeable, and the order doesn’t matter. However, defeating Queelign twice is required to obtain the Prayer Room Key, an item to meet him for the third time.

Fire Knight Queelign Third Location in Shadow of the Erdtree

The third and final time players will meet Fire Knight Queelign is in the Church District, below the Shadow Keep. To get to this location, you’ll have to find the entrance to Bonny Village inside the Moorth Ruins and then take the road north, circling past the Cathedral of Manus Metyr till you reach the Church District Entrance Site of Grace.

From here, jump across the rooftops (route detailed in the screenshots above) to reach the roof with a hole that drops down to a large archway. Drop down, and follow the left wing of the arch to land on solid ground. Jump down to the lower floor and turn left. You’ll find a locked yellow door on the other side of the room. If you have the Prayer Room Key in your possession, the door will open when you interact with it, and you’ll find Fire Knight Queelign hunched over inside. Talk to him, and you’ll be given the choice of giving him an Iris of Grace or an Iris of Occultation .

Draining the water from the Sunken Chapel is not required to access the Prayer Room.

Should You Give Queelign Iris of Grace or Occultation

Giving Fire Knight Queelign an Iris of Grace will result in you obtaining the Fire Knight Queelign Spirit Ash, which will summon Queelign to help you in battle. Alternatively, giving him an Iris of Occultation will result in you obtaining Queelign’s Greatsword , a Heavy Thrusting Sword with a basic moveset.

Lore-wise, the better ending for Queelign is giving him the Iris of Grace, giving him the gift of light, and letting him stay true to his cause. If you give him the Iris of Occultation, he will curse Marika’s name and die in pain and regret.

Iris of Occultation and Grace are rare items that can only be found in the Elden Ring DLC. Here are
