28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has its debut trailer, showing Ralph Fiennes’ Dr. Kelson struggling to survive in the post-apocalyptic sequel to this year’s 28 Years Later.
The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Alex Garland, lists Cillian Murphy as its executive producer, but according to Variety, the Oppenheimer star will briefly reprise his role as Jim from 28 Days Later in the film before appearing more extensively in the third entry.
We won’t spoil 28 Years Later here, but the trailer shows off a number of returning characters that pick up where the… eyebrow raising ending left off, and Dr. Kelson appears to have discovered someone (something?) who might change everything.
Even greater changes are still to come.

Here’s the official blurb on 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple:
Expanding upon the world created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland in 28 Years Later — but turning that world on its head — Nia DaCosta directs 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. In a continuation of the epic story, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) finds himself in a shocking new relationship — with consequences that could change the world as they know it — and Spike’s (Alfie Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) becomes a nightmare he can’t escape. In the world of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival — the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.
28 Years Later had a decent run at the box office, earning $150.4 million globally. And it saw positive reviews, too. IGN’s 28 Years Later review returned a 9/10. We said: “28 Years Later is as potent and timely an exploration of cultural strife as the original, and Danny Boyle and Alex Garland tug at the heartstrings with bloody, deadly skill.
“
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple hits theaters on January 16, 2026.
