Just a week after teasing a potential return to the Star Wars universe, fired The Mandalorian actress Gina Carano has admitted that she and her former castmate Pedro Pascal haven’t spoken in more than two years.
Carano recently described a “really lovely” conversation with Lucasfilm boss Dave Filoni and The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau, conducted after her lawsuit with Disney was settled. Carano did not confirm whether a return for her Star Wars character Cara Dune was part of that conversation, but the suggestion was that such a return was now possible, years after her firing over social media posts Disney previously deemed unacceptable.
Now, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Carano has discussed that conversation further — and praised both Filoni and Favreau.
“I think it was, ‘Let’s touch base,'” Carano said of the call, confirming it took place back in January of this year. “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni were two people that I always respected, and we went through two seasons together, and we had a great relationship. And even during everything that was happening, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau were never the bad guys to me.
“I won’t really disclose any of that,” Carano continued, when asked specifically if her return had been discussed, “but I will say that for me, it was an important conversation. To Zoom, to see each other, to mend whatever, to make sure everybody was good. And everybody was good.”

Indeed, Carano doubled down on the suggestion that Disney had shifted its stance on working with her in future. “It’s such a remarkable contrast from that first very horrendous statement that they had put out years earlier,” Carano said of Disney’s warm comments that claimed the company was now looking forward to finding opportunities to team up with her again. “That speaks leagues,” Carano continued.
Exactly how and when Carano even could return, though, is a matter for debate. There has been no suggestion by Disney that The Mandalorian will now return for future seasons following its leap to the big screen in the upcoming Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu. Indeed, the future of Pascal’s hero seems likely to rest on how well the movie performs at the box office.
Nothing has been heard of Filoni’s original plan for a big team-up movie to wrap up The Mandalorian’s era of storytelling in some time, but presumably the hope within Disney is that this year’s movie does well enough that a follow-up team-up film still makes sense. Certainly, there are plotlines still that need wrapping up (namely, the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn), and characters such as Boba Fett and the cast of Ahsoka that fans would like to see alongside The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda. Perhaps there could be space for Cara Dune here too?
For now, however, there seemingly remains another sticking point to all of this — that Carano and Pascal have not spoken in some time. The last time the pair talked, she said, was after the passing of fellow The Mandalorian cast member Carl Weathers back in February 2024.
“Me and Pedro don’t keep in touch,” she stated.
On the future of Star Wars, Carano compared the divisive fan opinions on the franchise to that of a wider cultural conflict where “two extremist sides” dominate the conversation — including one that “really tried to get me canceled, and succeeded.”
“I would really like to see all of this turmoil within the Star Wars fandom kind of come to an end,” she concluded. “It just feels like it’s a never-ending war.”
