Prime Video’s God of War series has a brand-new champion. Ronald D. Moore is taking the reins of Sony Pictures’ TV series based on the 2018 reboot by Sony Santa Monica.
First reported by Deadline, Moore is set to serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the series following the departure of Rafe Judkins and producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. The trio finished multiple scripts in the first season, but it’s unclear how much of those stories Moore will use in his own version of the show.
Moore found fame as a writer on Star Trek: The Next Generation before taking on a key role on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He went on to serve as the showrunner on the critically-acclaimed 2000s reboot of Battlestar Galactica and helped create Apple TV’s For All Mankind.
Moore joins God of War as part of a multi-year overall deal with Sony. As IGN previously reported, Sony Santa Monica creative director Cory Barlog remains onboard as executive producer.
Moore’s God of War will seek to match the success of Max’s award-winning The Last of Us adaptation, which is due to kick off its second season in 2025. Not much is known about the God of War adaptation save that it will be based on the 2018 update originally released for PS4. It joins a Ghost of Tsushima movie that has been in the works since 2021.
It’ll likely be a bit before we get to see God of War on Prime Video, but God of War fans can look forward to Netflix’s Secret Level, which will feature God of War along with numerous other games. Secret Level releases on Prime Video on December 10.
