Google Cloud forms AI partnership with CANAL+

Google Cloud has announced a multi-year AI partnership with CANAL+ aimed at improving content discovery and accelerating video production capabilities across the French broadcaster’s streaming platforms.

Under the agreement, which begins in June 2026, the media company will deploy Google Cloud’s generative AI technologies across European and African markets where the CANAL+ app is available.

Google said the partnership will focus on enhancing how content is indexed and recommended, while introducing new AI-powered tools for creative teams working on film and television production.

The broadcaster will also use Google Cloud’s video indexing technology to analyse and categorise CANAL+’s extensive content library.

The system will create a multimodal database combining video, audio and text data, which Google said will enable more detailed classification of content.

According to the companies, the additional data insights will help power more personalised recommendations within the CANAL+ app, allowing the platform to match programmes more closely to individual viewing habits and preferences.

Google added that the improved indexing capabilities could create new opportunities for content discovery and potential new business models.

Alongside improvements to its streaming platform, CANAL+ will also adopt Veo3, Google’s generative AI video technology, to support production workflows.

Google said the technology will allow creative teams and production partners to visualise scenes before filming and recreate historical moments from archival material, including generating video sequences from a single photograph.

The company added that using the AI tools could reduce production costs by shortening experimentation cycles during development.

“The entertainment industry is at a pivotal inflection point where the intersection of creativity and compute power defines market leadership,” said Matt Renner, president and chief revenue officer at Google Cloud.

“Our deepened collaboration with CANAL+ reflects a shared culture of innovation.

“By leveraging Google Cloud’s generative AI technologies, CANAL+ is not just adopting tools; it is architecting the future of media and transforming the entertainment landscape on a global scale.”
