HBO is on the hunt for its next Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley.

Fans recently spotted an open casting call for “an upcoming HBO Original series adaptation of Harry Potter, produced by HBO,” and Variety confirmed with HBO that it’s indeed authentic. The casting call also drops a hint about when filming will begin, saying the network will only “consider children who are aged 9-11 in April 2025” and listing the filming dates as 2025-2026 in the U.K. That would track with Warner Bros. Discovery’s previous announcement that the show would debut sometime in 2026.

The deadline for submissions is October 31, 2024, and auditioning children must be residents of the U.K. or Ireland. It asks hopeful young actors to submit a video reading a short story or poem of their choosing, but “please, nothing from Harry Potter.”

HBO has posted a casting call looking for its Harry, Hermione, and Ron.

It adds that the production is “committed to inclusive, diverse casting” and asks that those interested “please submit qualified performers, without regard to ethnicity, sex, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis protected by law unless otherwise specifically indicated.”

Additional castings will no doubt be on the way, but for now, the open casting call only provides options to submit auditions for Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The golden trio was previously played by Daniel Radcliffe (who’s said he likely won’t appear in the show), Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in Warner Bros.’ hit series of films.

The upcoming Harry Potter TV series was officially announced last April and is said to be a “faithful adaptation” of the novels by J.K. Rowling, who will serve as an executive producer. HBO has recruited Succession producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod as creative heads for the show, with Gardiner serving as showrunner and executive producer while Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes.
