Heat 2 Movie Gets One Step Closer With Amazon

Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Val KIlmer rocking a ponytail and lots and lots of guns, Michael Mann’s 1995 movie Heat is a classic of the crime thriller genre, and fans finally got signs of life from the sequel, Heat 2. Amazon MGM is currently in the final stages of a deal to buy the rights for its production company, United Artists.

The rights were previously the property of Warner Bros.,but became available after a battle over budgets. Variety reports that producer Scott Stuber is also tied to the United Artists deal, but it’s hard to judge how he’ll handle this project from his past production credits, which range from Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein to 2012’s classic board game adaptation Battleship.

If you can’t wait that long, the sequel is an adaptation of the 2022 novel of the same name, a collaboration between director Mann and Michael and thriller writer Meg Gardiner. Mann was open about his desire to direct a movie version at the time, and in 2023 was being coy over rumors about Adam Driver taking a role in Heat 2.

“Let me put it this way: Adam and I got along like a house on fire [on Ferrari],” Mann told Deadline. “We have the same work ethic – which is pretty intense. We like each other, and we had a great time working together artistically.”
