Microsoft is expected to imminently launch Xbox Mythic Achievements, its own version of PlayStation’s platinum Trophies, and you can now hear how they will sound when unlocked.
Xbox has previously confirmed plans to introduce its own method of tracking your full completion of a game — that is, when you have unlocked all of a title’s 1,000 Gamerscore by nabbing every single Achievement.
Now, an update to the Xbox PC app has revealed the sound effect for an Xbox Mythic Achievement being unlocked, which has been discovered buried within the update’s files. You can hear its rather majestic audio cue just below, courtesy of Xbox leaker Klobrille.

The sound is a suitably more grandiose version of the regular achievement unlock ping, which already can be heard in a more dramatic form when a rare achievement (owned by only a small percentage of players) is unlocked instead.
Microsoft’s new Xbox Mythic Achievement effect is longer and more majestic still, lasting around 15 seconds as the audio wooshes in, builds, and then reverberates around. It’s satisfying stuff, though whether it’ll actually encourage you to grind for hours to get that full 1000G is entirely your choice.
Back in the day, Xbox Achievements were the first standardized reward system on a console platform, launching in 2005 back on the Xbox 360. The concept was so popular that Valve introduced Steam achievements in 2007, while Sony added Trophies to the PS3 in 2008.
While games typically share awards lists across platforms (so Xbox Achievements and PlayStation Trophy requirements are typically similar), Sony platforms have long featured the extra Platinum Trophy for most games, unlocked alongside your final regular Trophy. It is a signifier that you have truly mastered everything a game might have to offer, and fans’ Platinum Trophy counts have themselves become something to collect and show off.
Microsoft is yet to say when Xbox Mythic Achievements will land across the Xbox ecosystem, but today’s leak certainly suggests it won’t be long now.
