Less than a month after a disastrous box office debut that included a historic second week drop, Joker: Folie À Deux has a release date on premium digital and blu-ray.

Warner Bros. announced that the troubled sequel will be available to purchase or rent via Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and other outlets starting October 29. It will be available on blu-ray and DVD on December 17, with the physical release containing the following:

  • Everything Must Go (4 Part Longform Documentary)
    • Can I Have A Cigarette?
    • Finding Lee
    • A Hundred Films In One
    • King of Nothing
  • The Character Of Music
  • Live! With The Joker
  • Colors Of Madness
  • Crafted With Class

Joker 2 is the latest box office to make a swift transition to digital and blu-ray release, joining Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Borderlands among others. It’s become common practice when a movie fails to hit to quickly dump it to home release. Nevertheless, it’s a shocking move in light of the expectations around the release of Joker: Folie À Deux after the original movie made more than a billion dollars.

“We haven’t seen a sequel so savagely ignored by moviegoers since Disney’s Through the Looking Glass,” box office analyst Jeff Bock told IGN at release. “Simply put, this is an unmitigated disaster for the studio, and this rabbit hole leads back to only one place — the WB lot.”

Joker 2’s struggles can be chalked up in part to terrible reviews, creating a major drag on interest ahead of release. We wrote after seeing it as the Venice International Film Festival, “The worst thing about Joker: Folie à Deux is its unfulfilled potential. It begins with the promise of a novel approach to the Joker and Harley Quinn, placing them in a world where the opposite of cruelty is musical romance. Unfortunately, the DC sequel gets bogged down by a lengthy courtroom saga, which not only keeps the dazzling Lady Gaga away from the spotlight, but centers the movie entirely around its own predecessor, without doing or saying anything new.”

Joker 2 will now seek to drive some interest on streaming platforms and at retail. You can see the rest of the biggest movies releasing in 2024 right here.
