KPop Demon Hunters Is the Most Popular Netflix Movie Ever

KPop Demon Hunters is officially the most popular film on Netflix…ever.

This comes from data shared by Netflix, which says that KPop Demon Hunters gained 25.4 million new views from August 18 through 24, for a grand total of 236 million views since it dropped on Netflix in June.

Even more astonishingly, the film has seen a decline in audience numbers of nearly 0% over three consecutive weeks; a remarkable feat for literally any movie, even the biggest hits. Deadline reports that it expects its viewership to increase in the coming week, thanks to KPop Demon Hunters The Sing-Along Event getting its viewership effectively packed in with the film even though they’re different titles.

In July, KPop Demon Hunters became the most-watched animated Netflix film of all time.

KPop Demon Hunters pushed Red Notice, at 230.9 million views, into second place, where it’s followed by Carry-On, Don’t Look Up, and The Adam Project. For just last week, it was followed up in second place by Night Always Comes at 12.3 million views, followed by Welcome to Sudden Death, My Oxford Year, and Home.

If you’re unfamiliar with the new craze, KPop Demon Hunters is a Sony Pictures Animation film following Korean pop band Huntrix, a trio who moonlight as, well, demon hunters trying to stop an evil demon king from devouring humanity. In our 8/10 review, we called it a “spectacular animated action musical” and a “terrific directorial debut for animator Maggie Kang.”

Netflix is preparing to capitalize on the film’s success with plans for a live-action remake, a stage musical, sequels, and more, apparently already referring to the franchise as its own “Frozen”. A special sing-along version of the film dropped earlier this week, with in-person theatrical showings taking place this past weekend at a number of theaters.
