KPop Demon Hunters Join Fortnite With Demon Rush Mode

Fortnite has now announced full details of its expansive crossover with Netflix movie sensation KPop Demon Hunters which, as IGN reported yesterday, launches in full this week.

Aside from owning Rumi, Mira and Zoey as new skins, HUNTR/X will also be the star of their own in-game mode, and pop up in core battle royale gameplay.

Launching tomorrow, October 2, and available until November 1, Horde Rush: Demon Rush sees players team up with HUNTR/X for a new version of Fortnite’s fan-favorite horde offering. In the past, the mode has traditionally arrived alongside the game’s main Fortnitemares event. This year, however, the newly-retitled Demon Rush has had something of a makeover, fitting with both the Demon Hunters themselves and Fortnite Chapter 6’s wider demonic theme.

Demon Rush will now let you equip KPop Demon Hunters-inspired abilities between survival waves, and let you recruit one of the trio to act as a computer-controlled ally. Over in Battle Royale/Zero Build and Blitz Royale, meanwhile, you’ll be able to fight using KPop Demon Hunters items. These include Rumi’s Empowered Sword, Zoey’s Golden Bubble Shield, Mira’s X-tra Spicy Ramyeon and the Derpy Teleporter Mask.

Outside of Epic Games’ own offerings, KPop Demon Hunters will become the latest officially licensed brand made available for creators to build their own experiences with. This follows Fortnite’s previous collaboration with fellow Netflix series Squid Game, and other IPs such as The Walking Dead and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Here’s hoping there’s no hidden messages in the emotes for this collaboration

Released this summer to enormous success, KPop Demon Hunters has smashed Netflix records to become the streaming service’s most watched title ever, with more than 325 million views. A special sing-along version of the film is also now available, with in-person theatrical showings also taking place.

Netflix is already preparing to capitalize on the film’s success with plans for a live-action remake, a stage musical and sequels. Internally, the company is reportedly already referring to the franchise as its own “Frozen”.
