Legacy of the Dark Knight Briefly Became Playable Early on Xbox After Walmart Glitch

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight fans are bracing themselves for spoilers after some Xbox owners who bought the game digitally from Walmart found they were able to download and play.

Redditor Dramatic-Track-9935 said they obtained a digital code from Walmart, which, when redeemed on their Xbox, let them download the game. Once the “ready to start” message flashed on-screen, they were able to jump in and play. Dramatic-Track-9935 published images to back up their claim.

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight officially launches on May 22, although Deluxe edition owners can play from May 19. IGN has asked Warner Bros. Games for comment.

After the Reddit post caught attention, others tried to repeat the trick, and some reported having success. One person said they were able to play “all night,” although the game did show a “required update available.” Some who have made use of the trick are disconnecting their Xbox from the internet in a bid to avoid an update that would prevent the game from being playable early.

It seems Warner Bros. Games or developer TT Games have now clamped down on the exploit, although it’s not entirely clear what happened here. Was this a preload error, as Forza Horizon 6 suffered this weekend? Or were incorrect codes issued by Walmart for redemption on Xbox? Either way, fans are now issuing spoiler warnings.

It’s unclear whether Warner Bros. Games will now alter its release plans for Lego Batman. Over the weekend, IGN reported on the addition of DRM software Denuvo to the game ahead of launch, which sparked concern amid controversial PC system requirements.
