LEGO has announced a new set based on the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. The set depicts the candy wonderland of Wonka’s factory, complete with the chocolate waterfall and the Wonkatania boat. The set is aimed at the 18+ age group and consists of 2,025 pieces, with nine minifigures.

The Willy Wonka LEGO set will be available exclusively at the LEGO Store starting September 18, for $219.99. It’s not available for preorder.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory LEGO Set

It’s a big, colorful set befitting the source material. It has candy trees, a bridge over the chocolate river, the boat (the tunnel of terror is not included, unfortunately), and the chocolate waterfall. Turning a dial hidden on the back of the set makes the waterfall flow. There’s also a secret door that opens to Wonka’s office.

The nine minifigures included are as follows:

  • Willy Wonka
  • Charlie Bucket
  • Grandpa Joe
  • Augustus Gloop
  • Mike Teavee
  • Veruca Salt
  • Violet Beauregarde
  • 2 Oompa Loompas

This set is part of the LEGO Ideas program, which allows fans to build sets of their own design, and submit them for voting. Sets that receive 10,000 votes moves on for consideration to become real sets. You can check out our picks for the best LEGO Ideas sets released so far.

This Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory set looks great and would be perfect for any LEGO adults who have fond memories of watching the movie as a kid. It joins other LEGO sets based on movies, like Jaws, Home Alone, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
