US retailer Lowe’s has launched an AI-powered advisor to help customers find solutions for home improvement projects.

Developed in partnership with OpenAI, the home improvement retailer said that ‘Ask Mylow’ leverages its data to provide customers with practical steps and solutions for projects of varying types and complexity, helping them find and purchase the right tools and materials for their projects.

The technology provides answers on tasks and searches including how-to-advice or research on top rated product searches. For example, Mylow delivers conversational answers to home improvement questions, such as: “When do I plant grass seed?”, or “How do I measure my kitchen for a new floor”, “How do I get my faucet to stop leaking.”

The brand, which serves around 16 million customer transactions a week in the United States, operates over 1,700 home improvement stores and employs approximately 300,000 associates.

The business registered a total fiscal year 2024 sales of more than $83 billion.

The new AI application is available to MyLowe’s Rewards members or by visiting lowes.com/Mylow, and is currently available on desktop and mobile web.

Customers using Mylow can also refine local recommendations by providing details such as project budget or postcode.

“Mylow joins Lowe’s team of approximately 300,000 friendly and knowledgeable associates who are committed to unmatched customer service,” the US retailer said in a statement.

Lowe’s chief digital and information officer Seemantini Godbole noted how home improvement process can be overwhelming no matter the level of knowledge in the field and DIY processes.

“That’s why Lowe’s has invested in AI and emerging technologies to create solutions that truly help our customers,” he said.

Godbole added that the technology aims to help customers stay more informed while helping its associates improve customer satisfaction.

Lowe’s senior vice president of technology, Chandhu Nair added the development of the service reinforces the retailer’s tech-led vision.

“We’re doubling down with emerging technology collaborators like OpenAI to solve problems for our customers and because we want the home improvement experience at Lowe’s to be a cut above,” continued Nair.
