Marvel Studios TV boss Brad Winderbaum sent fans’ heads spinning after he acknowledged what looks like a Watcher Easter Egg in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
The Disney+ continuation of the Charlie Cox-led series left fans’ jaws on the floor for more reasons than one when Episode 4, Gloves Off, premiered last week. As what turned out to be an eventful hour of television came to an end, viewers spotted the familiar outline of the cosmic being known as the Watcher in a recently shattered window.
“Obviously it’s just the lights in the gym but the way that glass broke and the framing of the camera really makes it look like Uatu,” one Reddit user said, referring to the Watcher by his name, days after the episode premiered April 7. “Do yall think this was intentional or just a coincidence?”

The Watcher is a well-known character from the Marvel universe who made his first Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) appearance as a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and went on to play a larger role, mostly as a story teller, in the animated What If…? spinoff series. He’s mostly stayed out of the live-action world in recent years, but select audience members have spent the past few days wondering if the Watcher truly made an appearance in Daredevil: Born Again, or if it’s just a bizarre coincidence.
As MCU die-hards argued about the potential Easter Egg, Winderbaum, the head of streaming, television, and animation at the comic book company, took to Instagram to add fuel to the theory fire yesterday. The caption on his post simply includes hashtags for Daredevil and What If…?, with the image itself acknowledging the moment that has fans second guessing what they’ve seen.
“Always watching…” text placed over the image says.
Unfortunately for eagle-eyed Marvel fans, Winderbaum didn’t outright confirm if this Watcher cameo was intentional or just some lucky camera placement. It led to discourse in MCU communities across social media to argue about not only if this supposed Easter Egg is real but if they may want to keep an eye out for other similar nods in future – or even past – Marvel projects.
“I think he’s just having fun and leaning into Redditors’ speculation,” one Reddit user suggested.
“He is just playing into the bit seeing what the online speculation has been,” one fan added. “It’s a piece of broken glass and some lights. He is just leaning into the moment and having fun. This confirms nothing other than that Reddit will find hidden meaning wherever they like, whether it’s a freeze frame from a TV show or an IG post.”
“Well whether it’s intentional or not, I really hope they keep doing this,” another said. “And not just in the shows.”
It took a few days for fans to put the pieces of the broken window together, but it will be hard to look at it the same way again. MCU watchers still have plenty of time to comb through that episode and any other Marvel projects for Easter Eggs while they wait for the next episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, The Grand Design, to premiere April 14.
