Marvel Comics will relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025. The new series will be set after the Battle of Jakku and the end of the Galactic Civil War, as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa work to establish the New Republic and restore order to a chaotic galaxy.

The latest volume of Star Wars is written by Alex Segura, following up on his Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries. The series will be illustrated by Star Wars veteran Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron), with Noto and Leinil Yu providing covers for the first issue.

Segura and Noto’s Star Wars is set roughly two years after the events of Return of the Jedi, following the last major clash between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance at the Battle of Jakku. In this hopeful new era, the New Republic is seeking to establish itself as the new ruling force in the galaxy. However, Luke and friends will face new challenges as opportunistic pirates, thieves, and other villains seek to take advantage of the power vacuum.

“Now that we’ve put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking,” Segura told StarWars.com. “These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can’t wait.”

“Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them,” Noto said. “I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline.”

Star Wars #1 will be released on May 7, 2025, timed to this year’s Star Wars Day celebrations.

This won’t be Marvel’s only new comic set after the events of Return of the Jedi. In February, the publisher will kick off Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, a book that explores Kylo Ren’s journey in the aftermath of The Last Jedi.
