A new Star Fox game and a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake are among numerous unannounced Nintendo games reportedly headed to Switch 2 this year.
That’s according to noted internet tipster Natethehate, who accurately leaked the Switch 2’s reveal date last year alongside other details of the console, and whose information today has been backed up by VGC sources.
Perhaps surprisingly, 2026 will reportedly not be the year we see a major new 3D Mario game — though Nintendo’s long-awaited follow-up to Super Mario Odyssey will apparently be ready for 2027.
Speaking via his podcast, Natethehate said that Nintendo’s new Star Fox game would be announced in April and had been intended as a surprise reveal following the character’s just-confirmed appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (where, incredibly, he will be voiced by Glenn Powell). The game will apparently launch later in 2026 and include online multiplayer.
Nintendo isn’t planning a general Nintendo Direct broadcast until its usual reveal fest held each June, but this summer will then see a flurry of previously-announced Switch 2 games finally make their debut: Splatoon adventure spinoff Splatoon Raiders, Rhythm Heaven: Groove and Fire Emblem: Fortune Weave.
A new Switch Sports game was also mentioned, though its release sounds less certain. Finally, other Switch 2 Edition re-releases are also expected, for Pikmin 4 and Xenoblade 2.
The end of the year currently looks set to include FromSoftware’s Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods and then Nintendo’s own The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, though details of this remain unclear.
“In the second half of 2026, approaching the holidays if not the holidays, we are going to receive an Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2,” Natethehate said. “This is something I was a bit hesitant about in January because I didn’t think it was something they’d do. I’m hearing an Ocarina of Time remake. I don’t have details as to what type of scope this has. Maybe we get a 1:1 remake like akin to Demon Souls or maybe a remake that is free to explore design choices.”
This year marks Zelda’s 40th anniversary, though Nintendo let the franchise’s actual birthday pass last month with no fanfare. It seemed unlikely the company would ignore it completely, and a major game launch this Christmas would act as a good lead-in to next year’s live-action Legend of Zelda movie (due on May 7, 2027).
As for Nintendo’s next big 3D Mario game, this will arrive in 2027. The project has been a long time in the making, with Super Mario Odyssey now almost a decade old. While some staff members worked on last year’s Donkey Kong Bananza, other members of the team have clearly been busy building what’s next for Nintendo’s mascot. (And while there’s no suggestion this is actually the reason for a 2027 launch, keeping Mario for next year means he doesn’t clash with the arrival of GTA 6.)
